Double honor for Symrise cosmetic research

SymClariol® and SymMollient® W/S win the 2008 BSB Innovation Prize
(lifePR) (Frankfurt, ) The awards bestowed on two Symrise cosmetic ingredients have once again demonstrated the innovative force of this global fragrance and flavorings manufacturer. For the second year in a row, the BSB Innovation Prize goes to two Symrise products: SymClariol® (a moisturizer) and SymMollient® W/S (a water-soluble refatting agent) The two Symrise products achieved second and third place, respectively, in the category of "Most Innovative Raw Material Concept - Functionals/Recipients". The European Innovation Prize for Cosmetics and Raw Materials was presented April 16, 2008, at the In-cosmetics exhibition in Amsterdam.

SymClariol®, a multifunctional active ingredient from the successful Symrise line of 1,2-alkanediols, moisturizes, regulates sebum and has antimicrobial properties. At the same time, this product also has a significant influence on the functional properties of rinse-off formulations - a feat it accomplishes, for instance, by acting as a foam booster and by raising viscosity, thereby making it possible to reduce the use of surfactants.

In addition, SymClariol® also makes preservatives more effective, especially when it comes to preventing yeasts and mold. Thanks to its multifunctional character, SymClariol® can be applied to a wide variety of cosmetic skin and hair-care products, including shampoos, conditioners, moisturizing creams, deodorants and products that combat acne and dandruff.

SymMollient® W/S is a water-soluble emollient with sensory properties that soothes dry skin by regulating the moisture content of the skin, enhancing its tolerance to detergents, and improving its lipid content, which leaves the skin soft and supple. SymMollient® W/S is used in shower and bath products and shampoos, where it lends a creamy foam to surfactant formulations, leaving the skin feeling smooth, supple and soft.

BSB Beratungs- und Servicebüro Dr. Riedel [Dr. Riedel Consulting Services Agency] has been presenting the annual BSB Innovation Prize for six years. The winners in the "Most Innovative Raw Materials Concept" category are selected by an independent, international jury consisting of prestigious representatives of the cosmetics industry (such as Unilever, J&J and P&G).

Symrise came away with awards for two products last year as well: SymRelief® and SymRepair® each took first place in their respective categories.

This second round of awards represents a major success for the Symrise "Life Essentials" business unit (formerly "Cosmetics"), which has been redesigned as a bridge between beauty and health.
